Live like a Maharaja - Udaipur

This time around I was off to Udaipur with my visiting parents and it managed to live up to recommendations I had received from friends and colleagues.

Udaipur is a city surrounding a large artificial lake built a few centuries ago and is said to be quite romantic (which would have to be said is true). We stayed at a wonderful hotel which had a great rooftop swimming pool with a view over the lake and the city. This was a great refuge when the mercury climbed to 40 degrees.

Udaipur has a magnificent palace including a palace for the current maharaja. The days went with walking through the city taking hundreds of photos, taking a sunset boat ride, and dodging cows.

We were also lucky to experience a Muslim holiday which brought most people out to the mosque; people were smiling and asking to have photos taken of them. However, to our slight surprise we were asked by police officers with a good amount of stars on his shoulders to go back to the hotel. We found out that there had been several violent Muslim protests the past days and that it could have potentially spread to Udaipur.
