I can hire an elephant for a ride?
I am a lawyer and work for the wildlife trust of
India an NGO that works for the protection of the wildlife.
I would strongly suggest that you are
extremely cautious when u r hiring the elephant and to be honest it is not legal because most of these elephants are illegally kept.
Most of the people who r in to this business do not have ownership certificates which is mandatory under law. The elephant who are used for these rides are often tortured by the mahouts. Furthermore you have to also ensure that the elephants have a fitness certificate.
If you are not careful, you could end being prosecuted.
I am not trying to spoil your plan or the surprise, i am just requesting you to be careful.
I recently hired one for a couple of hours.
Approx Rs. 2,500.
